National film nonprofit Fotolanthropy today announces the appointment of David White as President. A filmmaker with more than 12 years of professional production experience, White will lead Fotolanthropy on its mission to create powerful films that share true stories of strength and hope.
“David is a brilliant, dedicated creative who believes in the unique work we are doing and the impact we are making,” said Katie Norris, founder and CEO of Fotolanthropy. “The mission of Fotolanthropy is more important now than ever and we needed to grow our leadership to continue to grow our reach. This has been a milestone year for our organization and we are honored to have David step into this role.”
White’s appointment follows the successful premiere of 7 Yards: The Chris Norton Story, Fotolanthropy’s most recent feature length documentary that profiles Chris Norton, an athlete paralyzed playing college football. The film launched on Apple TV and Prime Video in early 2021, and was then picked up by Netflix in March 2021. White served as cinematographer on the film and was an integral part of production at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Norton’s wedding ceremony in Florida. There, White and the Fotolanthropy crew captured once-in-a-lifetime footage of Norton walking seven yards down the wedding aisle alongside his wife.
A longtime supporter of Fotolanthropy, White served on the film crew for Fotolanthropy’s second documentary The Luckiest Man, which shares the narrative of businessman John Paine who lived courageously with ALS for more than 18 years. David is also the owner of Vidda Films, a media production company that he founded in 2009. His work there has spanned the corporate and nonprofit sectors and taken him around the globe.
“The opportunity to make films that capture such remarkable people and that bring hope to the viewer is a dream come true,” said White, who resides in a Dallas suburb with his wife Emily. “I’m thrilled to be a part of the team and already working on what’s next for Fotolanthropy.”
