Over 400 people joined us at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship in Carrolton, Texas, for last Thursday’s screening of The Luckiest Man. It’s always such a treat to be able to share this Fotolanthropy film, and to get a chance to talk with attendees to hear what brought them out to the screening. We are so appreciative of the entire team at Bent Tree for helping to make this screening such a success.
If you attended Thursday’s screening, we’d love for you to share your thoughts on the film. You can do so here on IMDB. If you would like to share your thoughts or photos on social media you can use the hashtag #LuckiestManFilm and connect with us at @Fotolanthropy.
At the conclusion of the screening viewers had a chance to hear from some of the individuals in the film including John Paine’s son, John Paine II and his wife Jennifer, and long-time friend and business colleague Gary Wood. Each shared about the changes they have witnessed in John Paine and how he has impacted them personally. The Q&A was then opened up to the audience who offered up some great questions pertaining to the the different physical ways ALS can progress, how John’s ALS has affected his approach to business, and the deeper spiritual transformation this disease brought into his life.
While John’s story is one of finding hope in the midst of such a difficult diagnosis, it does not erase the necessity of an urgent race for a cure for ALS. Today is ALS Advocacy Day and many representatives and researchers in the ALS community are on Capitol Hill this week to discuss the continued need for research funds and support for those dealing with this disease. Tragically, we received an email the day of the Bent Tree screening that an individual with ALS who was planning to attend the screening had passed away that afternoon. It further drove home the hope that The Luckiest Man will not only challenge the way we look at life’s difficulties but also bring awareness to this rare but devastating disease.
